Day 3: TORRES DEL PAINE / VALLE FRANCES

After breakfast we drive toward Pudeto dock where we board the catamaran to Pehoe, from here we will begin the challenging trek to Valle Frances (French Valley), along a steep trail that leads to the very heart of the Paine Massif. How far in we go depends on our group's trekking rhythm. A swifter walk will lead us to the hanging bridge over the French River, located at the foot of the south east face of the Massif, where we will be treated to fantastic views of the valley. We continue to ascend towards the upper section of the valley where we will be able to marvel at the extensive mass of the valley's geological formations. After our upward trek, we will pause for a picnic and relax a while. This day's trek will end as we descend through an undulating terrain of mixed grassland and light forest which will take us to Refugio Paine Grande, located on the peaceful shores of Lake Pehoe. *An optional trek to Mirador Británico is also available.

Day 5: TORRES DEL PAINE / LAS TORRES

Time for a big breakfast and lots of enthusiasm – your goal today is to complete the most famous trekking trail in Torres del Paine NP! You walk from EcoCamp towards Hosteria Las Torres and join the uphill path to Ascencio Valley on the Tower’s eastern face. Dry mountain spots, beach forests and small rivers line the scenic walk towards the valley. Our big challenge comes as we climb the steep moraine, a mass of boulders leading us towards one of the world’s most famous views overlooking the Towers. The famous Torres del Paine (2,900m / 9,400ft) consist of three gigantic granite monoliths, the remains of a great cirque sheared away by the forces of glacial ice. After an uphill slog, the Towers eventually come into full view, rising majestically before you, with the glacial lake visible below. Is there a better place in the world to have lunch? After feasting on the view and your picnic, you backtrack along the same trail through Ascencio Valley and return to EcoCamp.

Accommodations

MERIDIANO SUR

is one of the quieter and more intimate properties in Santiago, the Meridiano Sur is a great option for those that prefer the feel of a guesthouse to the relative anonymity of staying in a hotel. Featuring small but comfortable rooms, in one of the quieter, suburbs of the city, the Meridiano Sur is a good choice for a few days while exploring the area. Unlike many of the larger hotels in Santiago, there is, very much, the feeling of being in a home here. Originally a private house, on a quiet street, the house has now been converted to a charming little hotel, featuring 7 rooms. This attitude is really what makes this little hotel a breath of fresh air. If there is anything that they can help you with they will, and, with a great little breakfast room that opens out onto a patio at the back, this is a gem.

ECOCAMP PATAGONIA

is situated in the very heart of Torres del Paine National Park and provides the region’s first fully sustainable accommodation, complete with green technology. You enjoy guided treks and wildlife excursions by day and share evening meals with new friends, before falling asleep gazing up at the star-filled sky through your dome ceiling. Wake up in the middle of the Patagonian wilderness in a cozy geodesic dome, with a panoramic view of the majestic Torres del Maine, ready to pick up the hiking trail! The domes are spacious, have an open terrace to read, comfortable bed, low emission wood stove and heater, and fully equipped bathroom.

REFUGIO PAINE GRANDE

also known as The Paine Grande Mountain Lodge is located in the heart of Torres del Paine National Park. The lodge is located on Lake Pehoe in the former Pehoe shelter and in a strategic position in a primitive area of the park only accessible by lake or walking trekking trails. The Lodge has capacity to house 100 people located into 22 bedrooms with 3 & 2 beds in each. These rooms have excellent views over Lake Pehoe, the heights of Paine Grande, French Valley and the east side of the Paine Horns. Each of them has comfortable bunk beds. The restrooms, located on multiple floors are equipped with sinks, toilets and hot showers separate for men and women.
