Day 3: DRIVE TO YOGYAKARTA VIA CANDIREGO VILLAGE AND BOROBUDUR TEMPLE
Enjoy some leisure time in the morning and check-out at noon. Meet your guide and drive to Candirejo Village where you will explore the village with a local guide and gain insight and knowledge of local customs and traditions. Art, handicrafts, traditional health drinks and the agricultural system of inter cropping will be shown. When the heat of the day cools down, visit Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO Heritage Site. Borobudur temple is a Buddhist stupa and temple complex dating back from the 8th century, this is one of world’s truly great ancient monuments, the single largest Buddhist structure anywhere on earth. The construction is thought to have taken a period of 75 years, and completed in about 825 CE. Borobudur consists of six square platforms topped by three circular platforms, and is decorated with no less than 2,672 relief panels and 504 Buddha statues of various types. Then continue about an hour drive to Yogyakarta and check into your hotel. Tonight you can explore on your own around Malioboro Street (about 10min by taxi from hotel) to sample interesting local street food. There are plenty of Angkringan/Sego Kucing sellers around the street. Sego Kucing are small portions of rice with toppings, usually spicy sauce (sambal), dried fish, and tempeh, wrapped in banana leaves. If you prefer restaurant food, turn right to Sosrowijayan Street and go to Atap restaurant (there are other restaurants there as well that you can try). They have western food with an interesting choice of sauces.
