For those that want to do Mt Kenya in a relatively short time and still enjoy a great route then this is a great choice. As this trip uses camping it avoids the huts. A tailor-made safari that explores some of the best game parks in Kenya.

 

A 5 day trip starting at Sirimon and ending at Naro Moru. As standard, our crews and support teams set up camp every night and your meals are served in a mess tent. Most importantly, knowledgeable professional guides that go through bi annual training are with you throughout and our logistics team at our base monitors your trip from start to finish. Using especially adapted 4 x 4 vehicles and professional guides you head out on safari, staying at beautiful safari luxury tented camps to afford you the very best positions for game viewing. This itinerary includes two distinct areas of Kenya, the dry north topography of Samburu and the world famous southern landscape of the Masai Mara. Overall, a genuinely amazing wildlife experience in East Africa!

Day 1: NAIROBI

Upon arrival into Jomo Kenyatta International Airport you are personally met and transferred to your accommodation in Nairobi. There is a comprehensive briefing and gear check with the Climbs Manager and your guide.

Day 2: MT KENYA / OLD MOSES

At 8:00am you will be picked up from your accommodation and will be transferred past banana and coffee plantations towards Nanyuki to the Sirimon Park gate (2,700 m). After a picnic lunch you start to hike in the tropical woodland occasionally enjoying the sighting of a monkey, a buffalo or even an elephant arriving at Old Moses camp (3,200 m) in the early evening.

Day 3: MT KENYA / LIKKI NORTH

After breakfast, we start the hike of the moorland vegetation walking through the picturesque views of the Sirimon and the Mackinder’s valleys arriving at Likki North Hut in the early afternoon. Lunch at this camp and later take an acclimatization walk around the camp.

Day 4: MT KENYA / SHIPTON’S

Start the hike of the steep slope towards Shipton’s camp (4,200 m) arriving in time for lunch. The giant groundsels occurring along this route are some of the spectacular views on Mt Kenya. Afternoon walk to the Kami Hut and later get back to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: MT KENYA / SUMMIT / MET STATION

At 3:00am you are woken up by the camp crew and have some tea and biscuits. Start the attempt of the scree and rock to the summit – point Lenana (4,985 m), which is the highlight of our trip! After taking photos with the sunrise, descend slowly down to Mackinder’s Camp for breakfast. Then continue down the vertical bog to the Met Station (3,050 m).

Day 6: OUT / SAMBURU

At 8:00am depart the camp and walk through the bamboo forest to connect with your transfer vehicle at the Naro Moru gate and transfer to Samburu Game Reserve. Here the landscape has dramatically big tabletop mountains and a dry climate. You will notice colorful clothes and head-dress ornaments of the Samburu people. You arrive at your lovely picturesque camp in time to freshen up before dinner.

Day 7: SAMBURU

You spend a day in this beautiful game park, exploring acacia riverine forests and grassland vegetation. The mountains of Koitogor and Olelokwe make for a stunning backdrop with plains game, oryx, elephants, and the cats. Your days are typically spent game driving in the morning and the evening, with lunch and siesta in camp in the heat of the day. There are also activities on offer.

Day 8: MASAI MARA

Today you transferred to the nearest airstrip and you catch a morning schedule charter flight to Masai Mara Reserve. Upon arrival you are personally met and transferred into your tented camp. After lunch, in the afternoon you head out on a game drive in the famous ecosystem of the Masai Mara.

Day 9: MASAI MARA

You spend a few days exploring this marvelous habitat, which holds high concentrations of resident game, especially the cats. You will game drive towards the river from your camp and if you’re lucky you will witness a river crossing of what is known as the Great Migration. Typically your days are spent game driving in the morning and afternoon, with lunch and a siesta in camp during the heat of the day.

Day 10: MASAI MARA

You spend a few days exploring this marvelous habitat, which holds high concentrations of resident game, especially the cats. Day 11: NAIROBI / DEPART

After breakfast you are transferred to the nearest airstrip to catch a schedule charter flight to Wilson airport. Upon arrival you are transferred to Carnivore Restaurant for a late lunch, early dinner. You are then transferred to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to connect with International departures.

a premier boutique hotel in Nairobi with a collection of stylish suites. 14 luxury hotel suites with its own living room, en suite bathroom, dresser, and private furnished balcony. Decorated in calming natural color tones, teak woods and crisp cottons.

MT KENYA PRIVATE CAMP

is set up every step of the way and ready for when you arrive into camp in the afternoon. A mess tent contains a table, chairs, and all cutlery. Guest tents fit 2 people comfortably with sleeping mat, -30f sleeping bag, all set up for a comfortable sleep. A separate toilet tent is also set up on the perimeter for private and cleaner bathroom facilities.

SARUNI SAMBURU

is perched on an impressive hilltop with panoramic views out across northern Kenya. It is located on the 100,000 hectare Kalama Wildlife Conservancy just 7km north of the renowned Samburu Game Reserve. The camp consists of 6 tented cottages, a central bar and dining area, a swimming pool, and well being centre. The camp has several hides for close quarters game viewing. The Samburu people and their heritage are an integral part of Saruni and guests will be able to discover much about their lives from the professional Samburu guides and personnel.

KICHWA TEMBO TENTED CAMP

is located where the riverine forest meets the sweeping plains in the path of the awe-inspiring Great Migration, the camp provides an authentic dose of African wildlife, delivered with legendary Kenyan hospitality.
